What do you already know about conflict?
A conflict I was once involved in that really stood out to me is when I had conflict with my sister and my cousins. The conflict was about the people I was associating myself with and certain actions of mine. I genuinely like hanging out with people older than me because I enjoy their company. My sister and cousins are not too much older than me and the people were in their age range. I don’t mind those kinds of characteristics as long as they are loyal and I am happy but my family members weren’t too keen on that. Various rumors began to erupt about the people I hung around with and my name would casually come out. Someone had began telling my family these types of things; they weren’t too happy about it. It displayed me as someone who I was not and they didn’t like that. I don’t pay much attention to those things because I don’t care, someone’s always going to have something to say whether your doing something good, bad, or nothing at all. I knew the stories were not real but something about my families response to them didn’t come across to me as if they believed me. I continued talking to the same people and go against their opinions and advice. I began to lie to them and telling them I had stopped but eventually they found out. This caused a big gap between all of us and it would be very awkward when our families would come together. This also put a drift into some of my friendships, because I would do things that I would’ve never thought of myself doing. Eventually I smartened up and realized I didn’t need these kinds of friends in my life. In the end your family is going to be there for you before anyone. They will know what’s best for you and what’s not and still push you into the right direction even though your pushing yourself the opposite way. My relationships with everyone that was involved are exactly how I want them. I have a stronger relationship with my family members and know to listen to them because they care and aren’t trying to make my life miserable. I don’t have much of a relationship with the others, but I think it is for the best. I don’t talk to them anymore but if I were to see them around I would say hi. I can now say that I handle conflict very well from how I did before. I don’t think you can learn anything about conflict from a teacher or someone. I do believe you learn better conflict resolutions and how to handle situations as you grow older and learn from your past mistakes and experiences. I think I am very fair when it comes to conflicts; I hate conflicts and arguments and I try not to get involved in them. When I know I am wrong I am the bigger person and I admit it and I apologize. Overall I do not get into many serious arguments because I generally treat people how I would like to be treated. When my friends are having problems I stay out of it and am good friend to all of them to an extent. I never chose sides and when someone is wrong I will nicely call them out on it.

Did you enjoy the Assembly Presentation? Yes No
Yes, I did enjoy the Assembly Presentation on Thursday November 3rd, 2011. I enjoyed it because we learnt how to respect the environment and our resources and what we can do to help the planet.
How could it of been better? Which parts were boring or ineffective?
Overall, the presentation was very effective but it could’ve been better if we were more involved, rather than listening for most of the time. It became boring/ineffective when we were watching video after video.
What part did you gain the most from or found most engaging?
I gained knowledge on what I can do to make a small impact on our environment/resources. I found it most engaging during the one video where there were people from around the world sharing their stories about their lack of resources.
If 1 is worthless and 10 is wonderful, please give us your rating of the assembly:
7
The value I looked further into was “Value A- Feel Good, Be Healthy”; I viewed all 5 YouTube videos on the topic.
Three things that I have learned about this value:
1.) I learned that majority of the big farms use hormones for faster growth, etc. The hormones given to the animals can effect, us, general people very badly(illnesses, death, etc.).
2.) I learned that full-size farms treat all of their animals very poorly. An example of animal cruelty in the farms is that they are kept in a small place with very little space to move and also with very less air to breathe. Keeping them in closed spaces can cause the animals to become sick and violent which can cause them death on some occasions. Spiteful things such as debeaking chickens are what farmers do to prevent fighting in the animals living area. Big farms cure animal sicknesses by giving them antibiotics which becomes a future risk to us.
3.) I learned that there are harmful/toxic items around our homes and majority of places we go. These toxins have been established to be very harmful to our health and should be removed, which can be very difficult. Examples of these toxins are smart phones, sprays, carpet cleaners, baby bottles, and etc.; there is also a risk of diseases from those items which seem harmless such as cancer, etc.
List 3 actions that you will make or change as a result of what you learned about this value:
1.) Out of the three things I learnt about this value, I can relate to number three the most(smart phones, baby bottles). Every family member in my household owns a smart phone and are probably unaware of the damage of over-using it can do. I, myself will not use my phone as often as I do because I do not want to be diagnosed/infected with any illnesses that can be prevented. I also have a three year old sister who has long out grown her baby bottles which can be gotten rid of.
2.) My family and I will be more alert on buying organic foods to stay on the safe side.
3.) I know that I will not become a vegetarian anytime in the near future, but I will put a foot in the right direction by having at least one meal a day that is vegetarian.
Reflect on your experience you have had while making these changes
The easiest action for me to follow through on was to not use my smart phone as frequently; I was never phone crazed so it was very easy for me to do. I have changed my 50-100 or so text messages a day to 25 text messages a day and to use my house phone for phone calls rather than my cell phone. I have also gotten an “EZ Balance” band which is also connected to harmful toxins from house hold items.
Watching the YouTube clips gave me some insight on how big farms treat their animals and also on how it can affect people in the future and how I can be more alert with the foods I eat.
Before the first meeting on Thursday I was unsure of what Planning 10 was about. After listening to the presenters and Dr.Garzitto explain, I realized it is about making yourself and your surroundings as best as can be. What I’d like to get out of this course is to figure out where I want to go after high school and how I will approach it.
Before starting this assignment I was unsure of my “big dream”, I hadn’t put much thought into it. I am not good with making major decisions or declaring anything because I change my mind a lot. What I want to get out of this assignment is to recognize what my “big dream” is and make a step forward to achieving it.
My “big dream” has changed quite a lot throughout the years; I have had many different career phases and recently I have gone through the “fashion designer” and “nurse” phase. During my high school years I think I will always be double minded on what I would like to do when I’m older. The one thing my mind has been set on for many years is to create a healthy family and to find true love. I believe in true love and am very passionate about it; if it were up to me I’d be getting married tomorrow! I am a sucker for love and have always been one! I am one of those people that can sit around for hours at the age of 15 and be planning her wedding, honey-moon, and even be scouting baby names. From since I was younger I would read fairy tales, and watch sappy, romantic movies with my sister and think about how it’ll be growing old with my spouse. As cheesy at it may seem, I have made a “Parveen’s Perfect Wedding” scrapbook because I love planning events, parties, and just have so many ideas! I wouldn’t want a traditional Indian wedding, although I love my culture it would be a little too over the top for me. Mostly Indian weddings have a guest list beyond repair with every single cousin, aunt, and relative on it if you’ve met them or not; I would like to keep guest list at an average with not too many unknown friends and family. I would love to get married in New York City which is also my favourite city on planet earth! I want my wedding to be unforgettable, like something out of a book…a fairy tale wedding! I have yet to go to Paris but I’m waiting to go because I’d like to go there after I get married because it is such a astonishing city and I would love to explore and experience it all at once during a very romantic period of my life! I want to have two kids at the maximum and for them to be healthy. As unrealistic at this age this seems, I have an odd idea of having their names tattooed onto my body along with my husband’s name on the side of my ring finger as a reminder of what is important to me and what comes first. I am not the biggest fan of the weather in Vancouver so I would like to move out of the area, but not too far away from my family and friends! I am generally a cold person so I love warm weather and I enjoy being in it; it is always easier and more fun to do things in the sunshine! Wherever I am I know I will be happy because I am one to live in the moment and to enjoy something while it lasts. To me what matters most is not how much money I will make or how many friends ill have or the parties I will be going too; but about how special it will be to have people by you that are yours and you will enjoy every single moment with. Most people I know would chose money over love, but I wouldn’t, money doesn’t buy you a husband, kids, and it especially does not buy you love!
